MS3116 vs PT06 Connectors: Cross-Reference the Complete Configuration

An MS3116 connector and a PT06 connector may describe a related straight-plug configuration, but the family names alone do not establish an interchangeable assembly. For a useful MS3116 to PT06 cross-reference, compare the service class, insert, contacts, keying and rear hardware—not just the number of pins.
A practical example is MS3116F10-6P: the PT configuration to investigate is PT06E-10-6P(SR). Dropping the E or the strain-relief option changes the comparison. The PT06A-10-6P general-duty configuration should therefore be reviewed separately. [1]

Figure 1. Supplier-source product photograph from the Tradin reference collection. This illustrates a bayonet plug and its rear hardware; the photograph alone does not establish an exact MS/PT designation, manufacturer or qualification.
MS3116 and PT06: what each name tells you
MS3116 identifies a straight-plug family within the MIL-DTL-26482 Series I solder-contact references. PT06 is the corresponding straight-plug style within Amphenol's PT nomenclature. A broader PT search can also return PT-SE crimp products; MS312x and MS347x references require their own checks. [1, 2]
Treat a family match as a way to narrow the search. The purchase decision still needs a full configuration.
| Reference being reviewed | PT configuration to investigate | Procurement decision |
|---|---|---|
| MS3116E10-6P | PT06E-10-6P | Compare the open-wire-seal configuration and the complete drawing. |
| MS3116F10-6P | PT06E-10-6P(SR) | Include the rear strain-relief option in the comparison. |
| PT06A-10-6P | General-duty PT06A configuration | Do not silently substitute it for either row above. |
These are configuration-review examples based on the manufacturer's PT ordering and termination information, not approval of a supplied alternative. Keep any additional rotation or finish suffix from the original requirement. [1]
The expensive omission is often behind the connector
Two quotation lines can both say “six-pin bayonet plug” while describing different deliveries. One may include a rear clamp and sealing components; the other may require separate accessories. A lower connector-body price is difficult to evaluate until the included parts are explicit.
Ask the supplier to identify, on the quotation or drawing:
- The connector body and contact termination being offered.
- The rear seal, clamp, gland or other accessory included with it.
- The cable or individual-wire dimensions used to check those parts.
- Any item shown in a photograph that is excluded from the price.

Figure 2. A photographed component layout from the existing supplier collection. It makes rear-hardware questions visible; it is not a certified bill of materials for every MS3116 or PT06 configuration.
If the assembly has to fit inside an existing boot, enclosure or bend envelope, include that requirement before asking for a replacement. “Same mating face” is only one part of the work.
Check the mating half before choosing the candidate
Start with the connector already on the equipment. Record its full marking, then obtain the applicable interface drawing. Take one photograph looking straight at the mating face and another showing the complete side and rear.
Use a short review record:
| Check | Evidence to request | Hold the decision when… |
|---|---|---|
| Family and termination | Full reference and applicable catalog/drawing | A crimp or Series II product is being inferred from a solder reference. |
| Shell and insert | Complete shell/arrangement designation | Only a contact count is available. |
| Pin/socket and keying | Both mating references and correctly identified views | The contact gender or rotation is missing. |
| Rear configuration | Assembly drawing and included-parts list | Clamp, seal or cable dimensions are unspecified. |
| Supply identity and documents | Proposed maker/item and requested documentation | A reference designation is being used as proof of qualification. |
This is a purchasing review checklist. It helps expose missing information; it does not replace the equipment owner's approval process.
A harness context: what the product photograph leaves out
A cable plug eventually becomes part of an installed assembly. Space for the rear hardware, cable routing and access for inspection may matter as much as the face of the connector. A useful inquiry therefore includes an installation view, not just an isolated product image.

For an existing harness, photograph how the cable exits and how the assembly is supported. For a new build, send the available space or installation drawing. Either is more useful to the quotation team than an unspecific request for “military quality.”
2026 procurement context: keep urgency separate from substitution approval
In its 7 June 2026 industry outlook, IATA described Middle East disruption, constrained supply conditions and pressure on air-cargo networks. That is relevant procurement context; it is not evidence that a particular MS3116 connector is scarce or that connector searches are rising. [3]
For time-sensitive sourcing, state the required delivery date and destination, and ask for the basis of any availability claim. Keep the proposed configuration and approval route visible even when delivery is urgent.
What to send for an MS3116 / PT06 quotation
A useful first inquiry can be short. Include the full original part number, quantity and mating reference, then add the drawing or clear photographs.
Also tell us whether your requirement is:
- A named manufacturer's original part.
- An alternative that may be evaluated against your requirements.
- An unresolved identification or configuration question.
Add the required date, destination and documents. This lets the quotation address both the hardware and the purchase conditions, rather than returning a price for an incomplete description.
Browse the MIL-DTL-26482 connector range, or review the MS3116F10-6P sourcing reference.
Send your complete reference for review
Request an MS3116 / PT06 configuration review. Send the part number, quantity, mating connector and drawing or photographs. State whether an evaluated alternative is acceptable and which documents your purchase requires.

FAQ
Is PT06A-10-6P the same as MS3116F10-6P?
Do not treat them as the same rear configuration. Use PT06E-10-6P(SR) as the relevant PT configuration to investigate for the F-reference example above, and confirm the complete proposed item. [1]
Does an MS reference prove that the supplied connector is qualified?
No. A catalog cross-reference identifies a comparison route. Require the identity, qualification or traceability evidence applicable to the actual offered item when your purchase requires it.
Can a photograph identify the right replacement?
It can help establish the next questions. A photograph that does not reveal the complete marking, keying or rear hardware leaves gaps that need a drawing, additional views or a sample review.
