What belongs in a complete D38999 connector BOM?
The minimum practical BOM starts with the two mating connector halves, but the correct commercial package depends on the complete assembly. A connector can be dimensionally correct and still be unusable if the contact type, insert arrangement, keying, backshell interface or cable-entry range does not match the harness.
Connector halves: plug and receptacle styles selected from the complete approved designations.
Contacts and sealing items: pin or socket contacts, wire-range compatibility, cavity sealing and insertion/removal tooling as applicable.

Match the backshell to both connector and cable
Backshell selection bridges two different interfaces. The front of the backshell must match the connector rear interface, while the cable side must fit the finished bundle and support the required strain relief, shielding and bend geometry. Selecting only from connector shell size can miss cable-entry and installation constraints.
